A twin-engined Cessna 421 crashed just south of Foley Municipal Airport in Alabama Tuesday afternoon. The pilot, the only person inside the plane, made it out with only a few bruises. Police and airport officials said the Cessna was taking off when it immediately went down near Sunset Circle and Hickory Street. Officials confirm the pilot is alive with only minor injuries. The cause of the crash is now under investigation.

Wow...proof that if you can dissipate the energy away from the cabin, things turn out much better. Looks like the flexible trees took the wings off, which is exactly what you want. How the guy avoided a death fall from 50' out of the tree is even more amazing.

At first, I tut-tutted the guy who thought first about his car and not the pilot. I thought maybe he was going for a fire extinguisher. Then when that fire flashed, I gave him a bit more credit. Amazing that the pilot didn’t cook inside.

I seen something happen like this in person about 3 years ago at the Espada Aquaduct in San Antonio. I was there with my dad at the bottom of the little creek walking up to the parking area when a single engine plane crashes into the woods just after a small airplane runway. The police car that was parked there was first on the scene before we got up and so a was like 4 other people. The cop told us to stay back. We left and about 45 min later we passed by and there was a fire truck and ambulance on the scene with a couple dudes around the plane still moving things around. Not sure what happened. This was on Nov 16th. aka the day before the 2013 USGP
